Linux Useful Commands List

If you are like most of the developers, you will have juggled through different websites to find linux commands. There is no single resource on web which has all useful commands list for Linux. I have been there and I know it is a sheer waste of time juggling through different sites. So, to save your time, I have compiled a list of most useful commands for Linux in a single note for all the developers.

Below is the list of most important commands for Linux that I have found useful. To use these commands you will need to have SSH access to your server or use the Command Line for local access.

How to Install Tasksel

sudo apt-get install tasksel

How to Install LAMP Server

sudo tasksel

Select LAMP Server and press ok after that it'll ask you for the root user password. Enter password as you want.

How to Install PHPMyAdmin

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin

Select apache2 press ok after that it'll ask you for the root user password and confirm the password. Enter the password as you want.

How to Start Apache Service

sudo service apache2 start

How to Restart Apache Service

sudo service apache2 restart

How to Stop Apache Service

sudo service apache2 stop

How to Get Apache Service Status

sudo service apache2 status

How to Check PHP Version

php -v

How to Check Mysql Versionpython /opt/odoo/odoo/openerp-server -c /opt/odoo/conf/odoo_server.conf

mysql -v

How To Upgrade to PHP 7

Run following commands one by one.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ondrej/php
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install php7.0

If you are using MySQL, make sure to re-add the updated PHP MySQL bindings

sudo apt-get install php7.0-mysql

How to Install PHP intl Extension

sudo apt-get install php5-intl    //For php5
sudo apt-get install php7.0-intl  //For php7
sudo service apache2 restart

How to Install PHP zip Extension

sudo apt-get install php5-zip    //For php5
sudo apt-get install php7.0-zip  //For php7
sudo service apache2 restart

How to Install PHP curl Extension

sudo apt-get install php5-curl    //For php5
sudo apt-get install php7.0-curl  //For php7
sudo service apache2 restart

How to Set CRON

crontab -e

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install varnish

How to Start Varnish Service

sudo service varnish start

How to Restart Varnish Service

sudo service varnish restart

How to Stop Varnish Service

sudo service varnish stop
